While I have composed several essays on the topic of the Shroud of Turin, I feel compelled, by now, to illustrate biblical scholar narratives on this topic; in other words, I bring in the experts.
Dr. Gary Habermas is currently considerd the expert on the Resurrection of Jesus. He has written deep and thick commentaries, four of them in total, entitled “On the Resurrection” (4 vols You can view the books here.) He is also quite an expert on the shroud. (From a Protestant perspective.) Hugh Farey is a philospher and Catholic shroud skeptic. This debte, needless to say, is loaded with punchy narrative and thoughtful scholarship from both sides.
Dr. James Tabor is a biblical scholar who earned a PhD drom the University of Chicago and taught biblical Hebrew and Greek language. He was also a world renowned consultant to the FBI on the Waco Siege involving cult leader David Koresh in 1993. He is an expert on Early Christianty, Judasim, Dead Sea Scrolls, The Apostle Paul, John the Baptist, and James the Just. His most famous book is “The Jesus Dynasty”. You can view it here. In his presentation, Dr. tabor provides a highly detailed and well researched lecture on why the Shroud of Turin cannot possibly be the authentic burial cloth of christ. The video is quite compelling and engaging; it is lengthy, but satisfying. It answers questions and debunks most of the “myths” we believe are true about the shroud.
Dr. Nicholas Peter Legh Allen is a manuscript scientist, if you will. He holds a PhD in Philosophy and is an expert in Medieval Manuscripts, Ancient Texts, Medieval and Classical History, Judasim and Christianity, and Silver Salt Chemsitry and Optics. In his presenatation, he performs a more thorough scientific appraoch as to the reasons he is convinced the shroud is a religious fabrication with no historical or exculaptory merit. While these videos are long, take your time, come back to them, and see what you can conclude and, perhaps, what these experts have missed.

His highly acclaimed presentation known as Shroud Encounter makes use of over 200 animated images and unfolds like a CSI investigation. He has presented nation-wide to hundreds of church audiences of all denominations. He is a founding board member of STERA (Shroud of Turin Education and Research Association, Inc.) established by Barrie Schwortz, documenting photographer for the famous STURP scientific team that analyzed the Shroud hands on for five days and nights in October of 1978.
Breault was a key consultant to the Museum of the Bible in Washington DC for the development of a high-tech interactive exhibit on the Shroud in 2022 and was the most successful temporary exhibit in the museum’s history seen by over 85,000 visitors.
He has participated in numerous international conferences including the first United States Scientific Symposium in 1981 and three public exhibitions in Turin, Italy.
He produced twelve episodes of The Shroud Report, a half-hour interview show with the world’s leading experts now seen on YouTube.
He is a long-time member of the Shroud Science Group, an international consortium of scientists and scholars dedicated to further research.
Filmed at Museum of the Bible, in 2023 he was awarded a gold Telly Award for Best Short Form Documentary based on his work with the Shroud of Turin.
Mr. Breault is the president and founder of the Shroud of Turin Education Project Inc., the mission of which is to: “Advance the knowledge of the Shroud to a new generation.”
